What does “GLOBALBERO” actually mean?
GLOBALBERO – the name combines GLOBAL and ALBERO, the Italian word for tree. Our favourite trees represent what we love and what connects us. Because we protect what we love.
How did the idea become a project?
Some ideas need the right moment – and the right person to set them in motion. GLOBALBERO grew out of a real encounter: from inspiration, conviction and the deep belief that a love of nature connects people. What began as a conversation in a wine cellar in Italy is now an international art project inviting people around the world to celebrate their favourite tree.
The spark
During lockdown, Marianne Schmid launches the interactive art project #iorestoacasa – showing how art can connect people: without lecturing, simply through love.
The encounter
Organic winegrower Renate Schütz visits Marianne’s exhibition in Agliano Terme, Italy. Her wish to create a similar project to protect nature finds fertile ground with Marianne.
The idea takes shape
After exploring various approaches, the concept emerges: people from all over the world share creative contributions about their favourite tree – on a shared platform, visible to everyone.
The team grows
A Zoom call brings Berlin-based web designer Bianca Bürger on board. What begins as a conversation develops into a voluntary collaboration – and becomes one of the project’s supporting foundations.
Under a lucky star
During a live call, business astrologer Franziska Engel identifies the ideal launch date – astrologically speaking, under the best possible constellations.
Go live!
At 5:45 a.m., globalbero.ch goes online. The world map begins to fill with trees and stories.
What is the message and the goal?
The message of this project is to bring our love for trees back into our awareness.
This initiative aims to raise awareness of nature, inspire people to create a tribute to their favourite tree and, through these contributions, build connections among participants around the globe.
This initiative can change the way we see things: it invites us to look at something ordinary with new eyes and give it new meaning and importance. The tree symbolically represents nature. Seemingly independent. Yet the latest research shows that trees are able to communicate with one another. Perhaps they also communicate with us, if we listen carefully?
